NEW @U2 UNFORGETTABLE FIRE REMASTER THIS YEAR?
July 03, 2009
posted by: m2

It looks like U2 will be releasing a 25th anniversary edition of The Unforgettable Fire later this year. According to U2tour.de, a plastic bag found at one of the Camp Nou merchandising stands had this printed on the outside: Coming October 2009 The Unforgettable Fire 25th Anniversary Edition. Below that, the text listed a Super Deluxe, Deluxe, CD, vinyl and download version featuring B-sides, rare and unreleased songs, as well as videos and film footage. The bag also has a photo of an Unforgettable Fire box set similar in size to The Joshua Tree box set released in 2007. (Possibly adding some confusion is that the bag also showed images of the 2008 remasters of U2's first four albums.) (Thx Peter.)

NEW @U2 U2 - BARCELONA #2

Hey gang, we're not doing the wall-to-wall production for every show like we did for opening night of the U2 360 Tour. If you want to follow along with the setlist as it happens, catch us on Twitter, head over to U2tours.com, or follow along in @U2's forum.

NEW @U2 @U2 ORIGINALS: JUNE
July 02, 2009
posted by: Tassoula

Here at @U2, one of the things we're most proud of is the original content we provide, created exclusively by our staff. In case you missed any of it in June, the highlights are posted here:

Kelley Eskridge and Jennifer Tomooka kicked off the month by revealing the answers to the May @U2 Question of the Month, which asked fans "Happy Birthday, Bono! And in honor of our favorite singer, what's your favorite Bono moment?"

In our weekly Off the Record column, Matt McGee discussed @U2’s recent appearance in Parade magazine, then the following week explored the history of U2 album sales. Later in the month, Maddy Fry expressed disappointment in Bono’s lyrical repetition, while Marylinn Maione announced the @U2 departure of our Achtoon Baby cartoonist Kelly Eddington.

Our popular Like a Song series continued with an essay on "Mothers of the Disappeared" by Contributor Lisa Zeitlinger.

And finally, Maddy Fry wrote the most recent installment of U2 Lists with her choices for the Top 5 U2 Literary Moments.

NEW @U2 U2 360 OFFICIAL EPK
July 01, 2009
posted by: m2

Major spoiler alert, and we're gonna put it on the home page anyway because there's a chance the audio from this video might be removed soon. It's the official EPK (Electronic Press Kit) with live footage from last night's tour opener, and even though this is band-approved and authorized, YouTube & Universal may not like the inclusion of what sounds like an unreleased U2 song at the beginning and end. Needless to say, if you're trying to avoid spoilers, don't click the PLAY button. The rest of you, enjoy some amazing, pro-shot footage from Barcelona.

NEW @U2 @U2 QUESTION OF THE MONTH: JULY 2009
July 01, 2009
posted by: Kelley and Jennifer

Welcome to @U2's Question of the Month for June 2009: If you could give one of the band a T-shirt to wear on stage at a concert, what would be on the shirt?

Please send your responses to atu2.com@gmail.com by July 15. We'll post your answers -- and a new question -- on August 5.

Want to see what QOM is all about? Check out the responses to previous Questions of the Month in our News Database. And keep these guidelines in mind:

  • Share your own experiences, not your friend's or some random stranger's. Also, a lot of people might read your answer if we post it on @U2, so please keep that in mind if you're sharing personal information.
  • Please tell us your full name.
  • Since we don't know how many responses we'll get, we can't promise to publish them all. You can improve your chances by being specific, personal and brief (200 words or less is best). We reserve the right to edit for grammar, spelling and length.

U2 360 TOUR BEGINS TODAY!
June 30, 2009
posted by: m2

It's finally here, the opening show of the U2 360 Tour. This post is where we'll be collecting and updating all the news and links we can find about today's show and the tour itself. So, grab a beverage, get comfortable, and follow along, won't you?

If you're looking for the live setlist during the show, we'll be posting it in this @U2 Forum thread and on the U2tours.com home page.

U2start.com says fans "first in line are signing contracts, probably for interviews." They've also posted a good picture via Twitter of the Tuesday morning scene outside Camp Nou stadium.

Update #1: Around 3000 people will be let into the inner circle and the first 400 will have a head start of about 10 minutes, according to U2start.com.

Update #2: U2EastLink has some great photos from Monday's dress rehearsal. Our staffer Cara found an interesting Adam Clayton banner in the queue, and an enormous U2-Blackberry banner outside the stadium. (But there's not been a single word about U2 & Blackberry doing anything together this tour, strangely.)

Update #3: Fans are inside the stadium and here's a pic from 2nd row at the b-stage. U2tour is right up front, too, and posted this photo looking up at The Claw, and this one, too. Ditto for U2gigs and this photo. U2gigs also posted this view from the back of the pitch, along with this one, too.

What about tour merchandise, you ask? U2tour.de posted this photo and this one. The merchandise stands are all outside the stadium, so you can't shop during the show. U2start.com says the Aung San Suu Kyi masks are being handed out to fans. Here's a pic. And U2gigs has a great photo of the masks at every seat.

Update #5: U2tour.de has a great photo with bad news: You can't see the video screen from Row 21 and higher on the 1st level of Camp Nou. Ouch. On YouTube, here's a video of fans entering the pitch.

There are no bracelets this tour, it seems. Instead, fans with GA/floor access are getting ink stamps on their arms, like this one. Fans are also being asked not to lean against the railings because the bridge that connects the main stage and the outer circle rotates. See this photo.

Update #6: U2gigs posted this photo of the GA "Red Zone" seats and a closeup of one of the tour t-shirts. U2tour is poking around some of the stage & crew gear. :-) From this photo, it looks like Camp Nou is filling up.

Update #7: At 8:30 pm BCN time (2:30 pm EDT), Snow Patrol has taken the stage! And we're off! Pic from U2tour.de. U2gigs shows us what the screen looks like.

Update #8: Snow Patrol wrapped up their set at about 9:15 pm BCN time. Here's an awesome photo from high above The Claw during Snow Patrol's set. On YouTube, you can about a minute of Snow Patrol's set.

Update #9: At 10:05 pm BCN time, U2 has taken the stage, apparently right after David Bowie's "Space Oddity" played on the PA. Larry Mullen appeared first, and the band has started the concert. Use the links above to follow along. Here's another YouTube video from high above The Claw. And here's a shot of U2 on stage.

Update #10: Here's video from the opening song, and one from another early song. Here's a cool Flickr photo. And here's U2tour.de, apparently literally under the bridge. And here's the prettiest Claw photo yet, if you ask me.

Update #11: Here's another YouTube video from the concert. And here's another video. And here's another great Twitter photo of The Claw.

Update #12: U2 has done a live linkup to the International Space Station in the middle of the concert, talking to the astronauts, each band member asking them questions back and forth. Unreal.

Update #13: One of the astronauts signed up for the ONE Campaign while talking to Bono from space. Meanwhile, more to look at: Bono on screen. The Claw looks gorgeous all lit up. And check this out!

Update #14: Willie Williams has outdone himself. More pics: Gorgeous. And another one. And this one. And here's just one more. And here's Bono & Edge amongst the faithful.

Update #15: Larry on the catwalk, playing a bongo drum that's wrapped around his shoulders. Here's Adam and Edge. And here's some sing-along video, lasts about 30 seconds. And, sit down for this, there was a chorus line of people walking on stage with the Aung San Suu Kyi masks.

Update #16: at 11:35 pm BCN time, U2's main set ended.

Update #17: The "red heaven" (for that awesome song from Joshua Tree that we won't name since it's a spoiler) is back!!!!! (Here's the red video to prove it!) Here's a pretty pic of the stage from a low angle. Here's Bono wearing an FC Barcelona shirt.

Update #18: U2's first encore ended at about 11:55 pm BCN time.

Update #19: More pics, from the second encore: Bono wearing a suit of lights. (But it's not from "Gone.") Here's Bono with the Irish Falcon guitar.

Update #20: At about 12:15 am BCN time, the concert came to an end.

Thank you to all who helped us cover the opening concert, and thanks to all who followed along here, in our Forum, on U2tours.com, on Twitter, Facebook, or wherever you connected with us!

U2 360 ... ONE DAY TO GO
June 29, 2009
posted by: m2

Update: The GA system/policy is now available on U2.com. No lottery. First-come, first-served into the stadium. The "inner circle" will be filled first. Point-and-shoot cameras are allowed.

Update #2: Spoiler alert - the setlist from tonight's final rehearsal is available on U2tours.com.

Update #3: Here's a link to watch 25 seconds of footage showing The Claw during "City of Blinding Lights" at tonight's rehearsal.

----

U2's 360 Tour starts tomorrow (w00t!) and there's already a lot of stuff going on. For starters, the GA line at Camp Nou is already in place, and there are reportedly 150 to 300 fans already in line. U2tour.de posted this pic via Twitter.

U2log has a cool post with lots of SPOILER videos from fans outside the stadium. (See the comments, too.)
